Do I need a Tax ID number to sell items if I am not registered as non-profit?

I have a ministry and I would like to sell Bibles and T-shirts. Do I need a Tax ID number if I am not registered as non-profit?

Depends on whether you are selling on your own or through an entity. If you are selling through an entity (such as a corporation) you need a taxpayer ID for that entity. It does not matter what you are selling. It is possible to sell Bibles and T shirts for a profit. If you are not an entity, but selling as a self-employed, then you use your Social Security number.

You will likely need a federal tax ID # (EIN) and an Ohio vendor's license for sales tax.
